THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME OF THIS DESIGN:

This design may seem a little messy but it was intentionally created that way. Lindsey, is my sister. She is 2 years older than I am and has been estranged from our family for the past 11 years.

There is an entire lifetime movie script that could go here but needless to say, our family was a complete wreck when she left. I think we have gotten stronger as the days, months, missed holidays, returned cards and flowers and years have gone by but we miss her and her presence in our lives almost every single day.

Our family has always been artistic and crafty. It stems down to us from my Japanese grandmother and her sister, my great aunt. My grandmother was not a renowned seamstress by any means however, she did craft her own children's clothing for my mom and her siblings to wear. My great aunt, was well known in the family for “Japanese calligraphy”.

To no surprise, these talents and artistic abilities piqued interest in my mother at a young age and is something that she threaded into Lindsey’s and my childhood while she raised us as a single mother. Lindsey and I were really involved in dance and cheerleading but when we didn’t have a practice or football game we were running to, we spent our nights around the kitchen table crafting as a family. Arts and crafts is something that runs deep within our family’s roots. Some of our best memories with each other begin with a crafting project.

Today, the only way our family has any way of knowing how Lindsey is doing, is through her business social media pages and YouTube videos. Since she has left us, she has begun a very successful sewing business.

I designed this design and named it after her as a nod to the beauty within all of the things in life that we may not understand. To some people, this design will look like a total mess. To others, it will be a beautiful work of art. Much like our relationship with Lindsey. We wish her nothing but happiness even if that means that we sacrifce our time with her on this earth.

While we may disagree with her desicion to leave us. While we may not understand her ability to walk away or reasoning of why, I think it’s pretty special that art is always what will keep us together. It’s our lifeline. It’s instilled in our hearts. It’s deeply rooted in what makes us, what has shaped us as human beings in this world. And to me, it’s what keeps her and I connected. It’s our “love wink”.
